MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- The Shorter University volleyball squad returned to its winning ways on Friday evening, beating Milligan College in four sets, 25-20, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-20, in a Milligan Mountain Madness Tournament match.
Sophomore Jasmine Crook took 14 kills in the match while Tanequa Whitman garnered 19 digs followed by Jordan Corder's 40 assists and 18 digs.
In set one, the two teams battled back and forth with Shorter finding its way to a 24-19 advantage. Crook finished off the set with a kill assisted by Corder for Shorter to take set one 25-20.
In set two, Shorter led Milligan by pulling away 23-16. After another kill by Crook with an assist by Sarah Armstrong, paired with a kill from Corder, the Lady Hawks took set two 25-17.
After a slow start, Milligan made a comeback in set three due to a lone Shorter error and a handful of Lady Buffalo kills, 15-12. Mounting a comeback, the Lady Hawks found themselves in an 18-18 tie with Milligan. Coming down to the last few points, Milligan pulled out the win, 25-22.
Set four found the Lady Hawks leading 24-20 after kills from multiple Lady Hawks and Milligan errors. Leslie Welch ended the match with kill assisted by Corder to take the set, 25-20.
The Lady Hawks hit .233 against the Lady Buffs with Whitman hitting .667 for the match.
The Lady Hawks will face Bryan College on Saturday morning at 9:30 am in continued play at the Milligan Mountain Madness Tournament.
