KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- For the first time since the beginning of the season, the Lady Hawks were scheduled to play twice in one day with the start of the NCCAA National Championship Tournament. Shorter lost the opener to McMurry 3-1, but came back in the second match of the day to defeat Bethel 3-1.
The first match saw the second seeded Lady Hawks get outhit .201 to .156.
Jordan Corder had 36 assists and 14 digs to top the stats in each category.
Shorter (25-6) was able to recover from the early loss to defeat Bethel 3-1. The Lady Hawks won the match 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-15.
Shorter outhit Bethel .265 to .108 with match highs coming in the third (.371) and fourth (.387) sets to close out the first day of competition.
Crook had a match high 18 kills, while hitting .552 to set a season high. She also added five blocks.
Graham hit .385 on her way to recording 13 more kills.
Whitman had 24 digs in the second game also recording a service ace. Olive registered two aces for the match.
Corder got her second double-double of the day when she tallied 35 assists and 11 digs.
Senior Leslie Welch added five blocks and seven kills in the win.
Shorter has two more games set for Friday. Malone will be the opponent in the 10 am match; Shorter will return to the court at 4 pm to face Trinity Christian.
