Volleyball advances to NCCAA Regional Championship

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- The Lady Hawks defeated Pensacola Christian 3-0 to advance to South Region Championship game to be played on Saturday.

Shorter (24-5) made quick work of its opponent by winning in straight sets; 25-16, 25-7, 25-22. Coach Jon Moseley was able to play all 16 members of the team with the match under control, with many of the players playing just two sets.

Anna Graham led the Lady Hawks with eight kills, including two blocks, while hitting .438 for the match.

Joining Graham at the top of the list was Jessica White, who also pitched in eight kills and two blocks while hitting .583. White capped the night with a kill on match-point to send the Lady Hawks to the championship round.

Jasmine Crook registered six kills and two blocks, while Jennifer Campbell hit .455 thanks to five kills along with one block.

Leslie Welch had a team high five blocks to accompany her six kills.

Tanequa Whitman had 10 digs to lead the team, while also serving two aces on the night.

Jordan Corder was able to tally 16 assists with five digs through two sets. Dena Pierce took over at setter in the third set and registered 16 assists, along with seven digs and a kill while playing in all three sets.

The Lady Hawks will face Southern Wesleyan in the South Region Championship at 1 pm on Saturday. Southern Wesleyan advanced by defeating host Emmanuel College 3-0. Southern Wesleyan is coming out of Shorter's former conference from within the NAIA, the Southern States Athletic Conference, where they turned in a 19-13 record.
