Crook and Welch power Shorter to 3-0 win at Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lady Hawks were able to pick up their ninth straight set victory of the season; 25-22, 29-27, 25-22, this one on the road at Spring Hill College.

Jasmine Crook led the charge with 14 kills, while hitting .385 for the match. Leslie Welch was also dominant with 11 kills and hitting .474.

The Lady Hawks (18-5) were able to outhit their opponent, .313 to .188.

Tanequa Whitman and Jordan Corder each recorded 14 digs. Corder added 39 assists, giving her 954 on the season which results in four of the top six single season efforts in school history.

Loren Olive chipped in 10 digs, with two more service aces to give her 28 on the season. Megan Pepe was also able to add nine digs to the stat line, one shy of her season high.

The first was tied at 15 before the lady Hawks were able to pull away for the victory. The second set went into extra points before Shorter was able to claim the set. The final set saw the Lady Hawks extend from a 10-10 tie to establish a lead that lasted until Corder assisted to Anna Graham to mark the final point of the match; the kill was Graham's eighth of the day.

Spring Hill College was receiving votes for the NAIA Top 25 polls while maintaining first place in the Southern States Athletic Conference, where Shorter used to belong. Spring Hill had run off 20 consecutive victories and was previously undefeated at home for the season.

The Lady Hawks return to the state of Alabama on November 6 for a GSC match versus Alabama-Huntsville at 7 pm.

The Lady Hawks return home to the Winthrop-King Centre on November 8 when another GSC rival, Union, takes the court at 7 pm.
