Lady Hawks claim straight set victory over Berry, 3-0

ROME – In the Dig Pink match versus cross-town rival Berry, Shorter was able to be victorious 3-0.

All the sets were played very closely, with the Lady Hawks able to sweep; 25-21, 26-24, 25-23. Shorter played strong and was able to outhit their opponent, .256 to .187. The final set saw Shorter (14-5) have its strongest performance, hitting a game high .278.

The first set saw Shorter overcome a 20-15 deficit, while the second set saw the host Vikings establish a five point lead early that the Lady Hawks were able to surpass. Shorter led for most of the final set with the clinching victory, 25-23.

Leslie Welch led the way with 15 kills while hitting .737. Jasmine Crook added 12 kills.

Tanequa Whitman accounted for 12 digs, with Megan Pepe pitching in with 10 digs of her own.

Jordan Corder tallied 39 of the teams 43 assists.

The victory marks an end to the three-game losing streak and sets the Lady Hawks up for a rematch versus Lee. The Flames are riding a season high 10 match win streak, but have had a week off since the last time they played. The last match for the Flames was when Shorter visited Cleveland, Tenn. on October 11.

The Winthrop-King Centre will serve as the location for the match versus Lee tomorrow night at 7 pm.

Shorter will be looking to start a new trend against Lee, as both schools are in transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II with membership into the Gulf South Conference.
