ROME -- The Lady Hawks volleyball team suffered only their second home loss on the season as they fell to the Valdosta State Blazers by a score of 3-1.
Shorter (13-5, 6-4 GSC) was able to secure the second set, 25-20, with Valdosta State taking the opening set and the final two, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22, in a match up versus the Gulf South Conference opponent.
The third set was fought tightly with neither team able to establish a large lead. Shorter had a 22-19 lead before the Blazers took control for good. Valdosta State (13-7, 6-5 GSC) was able to rally and score the final six points of the set to secure the match. The final set saw the Lady Hawks outhit, .209 to .067.
Chelsea Luttfring, the defending GSC Defensive Player of the week, led the Blazers as she was able to register 31 digs. Nikki McDaniel pitched in 10 kills and 10 digs, while Tania Tauiliili rallied for 12 kills while hitting .207. The Blazers hit .124 for the match.
Next up for the Lady Hawks will be a trip to cross-town rival Berry on October 17 for a 7 pm start time. The next night sees Lee visit the Winthrop-King Centre for a 7 pm start as Shorter will look to exact some revenge for the 3-1 loss at Lee on October 11th.
