ROME -- The Lady Hawks volleyball team made quick work of Bryan College, with a straight sets victory on the court of the Winthrop-King Centre, winning 3-0.
These teams played once before as part of the Milligan Mountain Madness on September 1, with the Lady Hawks taking the 3-2 victory. Tonight the victory came much quicker.
Shorter (11-2) has continued its undefeated play outside of the Gulf South Conference.
Tanequa Whitman had 11 digs to lead the team tonight, along with one service ace to move into a tie for the team lead with Loren Olive at 16 for the season. Olive registered two aces on the night when the home crowd recognized her for setting the career mark in that category.
Shorter only hit .176 for the night as a team, but Leslie Welch and Jordan Corder each hit .429 to lead the team. Jasmine Crook had eight kills, while Welch had seven and Anna Graham had six. Corder tallied 22 of the teams 29 assists.
This week, two Gulf South Conference opponents are making their first trips to the Winthrop-King Centre where the Lady Hawks will look to defend home court advantage. Alabama-Huntsville will be here Thursday for a 7 pm start, while West Georgia will be the next night on Friday at 7 pm.
