JACKSON, Tenn. – The Shorter volleyball team (9-1, 3-1 GSC) began a difficult stretch of three conference road games in three days on Thursday night and opened the run with a 3-0 shutout of fellow Gulf South Conference newcomer Union (3-8, 0-4 GSC) in Jackson, Tenn. An added bonus is that Union is also competing in the NCCAA this fall, where Shorter is still ranked No. 1.
Anna Graham and Loren Olive were tops in hitting percentage, Graham at .385 with Olive at .364 on a night where the Lady Hawks hit .300 as a team. In the final set, the Lady Hawks hit a match high .438 to seal the victory.
Jasmine Crook accumulated 13 kills, to go along with five digs and an ace. Olive was able to account for four of the team's seven service aces on the match; she is now three away from tying the career mark for aces.
Tanequa Whitman was able to total 13 digs versus Union.
Tomorrow sees the Lady Hawks go to North Alabama (2-8, 1-2 GSC) for a 7 pm match. On Saturday Christian Brothers (8-3, 3-0 GSC) welcomes the Lady Hawks to town to finish off the trip.
October 2 is the next time the team will take the court at the Winthrop-King Centre for a 7 pm match against Bryan College.
