ROME -- The Lady Hawks tennis team swept through the weekend versus a pair of Gulf South Conference opponents, Christian Brothers and Delta State, on the road.
The Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Bucs of CBU on Saturday from Memphis, Tenn., 5-0. Doubles action saw the top team of Candice Laurent/Aurelie Gaborit defeat Lauren Harrett/Kristina Reyes, 8-1. The other two teams for the Lady Hawks claimed 8-0 victories, Iesha Holton/Sicquena Sinclair and Aurore Beltrando/Alicia Gallard, sending the Lady Hawks into singles action with a 3-0 lead.
With all six singles matches going on at the same time, Shorter was able to get the win early when Gallard defeated Jordan Tedford, 6-0, 6-0, in the number six match and Holton finished off Tyler Napier in the number two match, 6-2, 6-0.
Sunday saw the Lady Hawks travel to Cleveland, Miss. to finish the road trip with a 5-2 victory over Delta State.
The duo of Sinclair/Holton won their match against Sandra Tora/Koceva Hristina, 8-1. The Lady Hawks picked up a victory via forfeit to head into singles action up 2-1.
Laurent, Holton, and Sinclair picked up the individual victories.
Holton went 4-0 for the weekend, picking up a pair of victories each day, while Sinclair added three victories without a loss in conference action.
The Lady Hawks return to the court next week for another weekend series of action against GSC opponents, this time from Rome, as Valdosta State visits on March 15 and West Florida visits on March 16.
