Jackson, Tenn.—Softball swept the doubleheader with Union Sunday afternoon; winning the opener 4-0, and the finale 2-1.
The wins improve Shorter to 34-8 on the season, and 20-6 in the GSC. The Lady Bulldogs fall to 18-16 overall, and 13-15 in conference play.
The Lady Hawks got on the board in the first inning of Game 1 when one run scored on a bases-loaded walk to Whitney Hood; it would prove to be enough as Shorter shutout Union. However, the Lady Hawks didn't waste any time getting some insurance, scoring one in the second on an RBI double from Felicia Morris.
Christina Ezell earned the win; pitching the four hit shutout, while recording eight strikeouts and two walks. Brooke Thomas was tagged with the loss for Union; going 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on four hits, with five walks and two strikeouts.
The Lady Bulldogs scored first in Game 2, plating one run in the first on an RBI single from Shelby Lamb. The Lady Hawks scored two runs in the third on a 2 RBI single from Bre Johnson to take make it a 2-1 game.
Maddie Bray tallied the win for Shorter; pitching all seven innings, allowing one run on six hits, with six strikeouts. Kelly Robey recorded the loss for Union; allowing two runs on five hits, with three strikeouts over seven innings of work.
Johnson and Morris both recorded two hits on the day; with two and one RBI, respectively.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action April 20, as they host West Florida at Alto Park. The doubleheader will begin at 1pm.
