Florence, Ala.—Softball earned the split with North Alabama; dropping the opener 3-1; and winning the finale 4-3.
The Lady Hawks move to 32-8 on the season, and 18-6 in conference play. North Alabama goes to 34-12 overall, and 17-9 in the Gulf South.
The Lions scored the first run on Game 1 in the second inning on an RBI single from Harlie Barkley. North Alabama held this advantage until the top of the seventh when Janell Echols connected on a home run to tie the game. The Lions earned the, 3-1, win in the bottom of the inning on a 2-run homer from Shelby Goodman.
Breanna Riley earned the win pitching the complete game for North Alabama; allowing one run on five hits, with five strikeouts. Christina Ezell was tagged with the loss for the Lady Hawks; going 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on ten hits with four strikeouts.
In the first inning of Game 2, the Lions got on the board when one run scored. But, the lead didn't stand as Felicia Morris and Bre Johnson delivered homeruns in the third to put Shorter up 3-1. North Alabama added a run in fifth, and tied the game in the sixth. The Lady Hawks' winning run crossed the plate in the seventh as Kendall Johnson scored on a passed ball.
Maddie Bray picked up the win for Shorter; allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts over seven innings of work. Haley Barnette recorded the loss for the Lions; going 4.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits, with one strikeout.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action tomorrow, April 14, as they take on Union in a doubleheader beginning at 2pm.
