Livingston, Ala.—Lady Hawks' Softball swept West Alabama on the road Sunday afternoon. Game scores were 2-0 and 7-1.
The wins improve Shorter to 31-7 on the season and 17-5 in the GSC. West Alabama falls to 23-14 overall and 10-12 in conference play.
Bre Johnson and Kayla Cooper accounted for both of the Lady Hawks' runs in the opener. In the first inning Johnson drove in Cooper on a fly out, and in the second, Johnson drove in Cooper once again, this time on an RBI double.
Christina Ezell pitched the complete game shutout and earned the win for Shorter; allowing two hits, with three strikeouts and three walks. Sarah Ray was charged with the loss for the Lady Tigers; going 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, with two strikeouts.
In the finale, the Lady Hawks went out on top 3-0 in the first inning. Cooper scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch, and Bre Johnson and Whitney Hood both connected on RBI singles. Shorter added to their lead in the third, on and RBI single from Kendall Johnson, and in the fourth, Amanda Dailey delivered an RBI double to give the Lady Hawks the 5-0 advantage.
West Alabama avoided the shutout with a run in the fourth. But, Shorter struck again with a run in the sixth off a B. Johnson homerun and in the seventh on a Jackie Castaneda RBI single.
Maddie Bray earned the win for the Lady Hawks; allowing one run on two hits, with four strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work. Jessica Brock got the loss for West Alabama; pitching 1.0 inning, allowing three runs on four hits with three walks.
Johnson went 3-6 at the plate with four RBI for Shorter.
Softball returns to action, April 13, as the travel to North Alabama for a doubleheader beginning at 2pm.
