Softball sweeps Christian Brothers

ROME, Ga.—The Lady Hawks took both games of the doubleheader with the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers Saturday afternoon from Alto Park. Game scores were 4-3 and 8-0, respectively.

The wins improve Shorter to 29-5 on the season, and 15-3 in conference play. Christian Brothers falls to 8-16 overall, and 4-14 in the Gulf South.

Shorter went up 1-0 in the first inning of the opener when Felicia Morris scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Bucs added two of their own to take the lead in the third on a 2 RBI single from Taylor Rosa-Ramon. The Lady Hawks tied the game, 3-3, in the fourth. Amanda Dailey homered to lead off the inning, and Sarah Corn scored on an RBI fly out by Morris.

The game remained tied, until the bottom of the seventh when Corn delivered on an RBI single to give the Lady Hawks the 4-3 victory.

Kayla Byrom earned the win for Shorter; after replacing Christina Ezell in the sixth inning. Byrom pitched 2.0 innings; only allowing one hit. Ezell, went 5.0 innings; giving up three runs on four hits, with eight strikeouts.

It was all Shorter in game two; pounding out eight runs on nine hits while shutting out the Lady Bucs. The Lady Hawks scored two in the first, and didn't look back. Morris singled to lead off the inning, and came around to score on Kendall Johnson's RBI single. Johnson then stole third after reaching second on error; and came home when Christian Brothers' catcher, Emily Schmidt, committed an error.

Shorter added one run in each of the second and fourth innings to extend their lead to 4-0. In the sixth, the Lady Hawks tacked on four runs for the 8-0 final. Maddie Bray delivered a 2 RBI homer, and K. Johnson drove in Morris and Cooper on a double.

Bray earned the win for Shorter, pitching the complete game shutout; allowing four hits, while striking out three. Kim Adams picked up the loss for Christian Brothers; going 5.2 innings, giving up 8 runs on nine hits, with three walks.

Kendall Johnson finished the day with four hits and three RBI. Bray went 2-2, with a homerun and two RBI in the finale.

The Lady Hawks return to action April 4 as they host West Georgia; the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm
