SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Lady Hawks got payback from the loss on Saturday to defeat Mars Hill, 5-1, to finish off the Sunday sweep from the Hampton Inn North Invitational – winning three of four on the opening weekend.
Bre Johnson continued her day collecting three hits and a pair of RBI's in the second game to lead the Lady Hawks (3-1) past the Mars Hill team that handed Shorter the 3-1 loss on Saturday.
Johnson drove in her first run in the opening inning, scoring Felicia Morris to put the Lady Hawks ahead early. Morris had doubled two batters earlier as part of a two hit day for the junior.
Morris scored again in the third inning when Whitney Hood picked up the RBI on a bases loaded single.
Mars Hill (5-2) finally got on the score board in the third when Megan Arrington scored with two outs on a Robyn Stanek single.
The middle of the line up – Morris, Castaneda, and Bre Johnson – tallied seven of the Lady Hawks ten hits while accounting for three of the four RBI's and four of the five runs. The Lady Hawks stole three bases with Castaneda and the Johnson's.
Christina Ezell pitched the complete game, striking out seven over seven innings while allowing just the one run to score to pick up her second win on the season.
The Lady Hawks will be part of the UNA Invitational from the campus of North Alabama, where they will play six games in three days, next weekend.
