SAVANNAH, Ga. -– The Lady Hawks split the day at the Hampton Inn North Invitational, losing in the second game to Mars Hill, 3-1.
The Lady Hawks (1-1) upset No. 20 Armstrong Atlantic earlier Saturday behind nine hits, but were only able to muster four in the second game.
The game saw most of the scoring in the third inning; with Mars Hill batting first they were able to score twice. Brittany Gibson scored on a wild pitch from Maddie Bray and a few batters later an error on Jackie Castaneda allowed for Aleshia Peek to cross home for the 2-0 lead.
Castaneda made up for her error in the bottom of the inning when she was able to drive the ball deep to center field to allow Felicia Morris to score the one run for the Lady Hawks.
Mars Hill (5-0) added one more run in the seventh when Gibson scored on an infield out with the bases loaded.
Castaneda picked up two of the four Shorter hits on the game, with Bray and Morris adding the other two.
Bray pitched seven innings, striking out five while scattering six hits.
Shorter will take the field again tomorrow with games at 11am in a rematch against Armstrong Atlantic and 1 pm against Mars Hill.
