ROME -- The Shorter Lady Hawks soccer team was able to put an end to a four game losing streak, with a home victory over gulf South Conference foe North Alabama, 3-1 on the turf of Ben Brady Field.
Brandi Greenwald and Helena Farinha each scored in the first half, both times assisted by Cintia Lamas, as Shorter (3-9-1, 2-3-1 GSC) took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Greenwald scored early, in the seventh minute, while Farinha got her second goal of the season in the 31st minute.
North Alabama (8-4-1, 3-2-1 GSC) scored in the 63rd minute to cut the lead to 2-1, but Greenwald was able to score her second goal of the contest five minutes later to cap the scoring for the game. Carleigh Butcher and Kayla Bell assisted on Greenwald's second goal, she now has scored eight goals o the season.
Katie Stachula made seven saves while holding North Alabama to one goal, which is below their season average.
Shorter was able to register 16 shots, with nine being on goal as the pressure was kept on the Lions goalkeeper. Greenwald had seven shots; while Aline Bez Tamiosso, Lamas and Farinha each added two more.
The Lady Hawks will be in GSC play twice this week. On October 17 they travel to West Florida for a 6 pm start, this is a rematch of a game from two weeks ago when West Florida won in Rome. They will return home to Ben Brady Field on Saturday, October 20 to host West Georgia for a 2 pm start. The Lady Hawks recently went to Carrollton and lost a 2-1 game to the Wolves.
