Women's Soccer falls 2-0 at home to West Alabama

ROME – West Alabama (5-3-2, 3-1-1 GSC) avenged an earlier season loss to Shorter (2-6-1, 1-3-1 GSC) with a 2-0 victory at Ben Brady Field. Shorter had gone to West Alabama on September 7 and left with a double OT victory, each team is now sporting a road win in the rivalry.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America had voted the Tigers as No. 5; with Sophomore Forward Nicki Gears as the leading point scorer in the country. Gears is the reigning GSC Player of the Week and was the star for the West Alabama team as she scored two goals on the night. Her first came at the 33:47 mark off the assist from Lillian Khodabandeh to give her team a 1-0 lead at the half. Gears then sealed the match just 15 minutes into the second period as she scored the unassisted goal.

Katie Stachula was solid in goal she made 11 saves in her sixth start of the season.

Aline Bez Tamiosso tallied six shots, two of which were saved by the UWA keeper. Tamiosso leads the team for shots taken this season with 36. Brandi Greenwald took two shots and Cintia Lamas added one.

The Lady Hawks will welcome West Florida (9-0, 5-0 GSC) to Ben Brady Field Sunday at 2 pm. The Argonauts are sporting a nine game wining streak after a 4-1 win at Alabama-Huntsville tonight.
