ROME -- The Lady Hawks took a two game road trip to start the 2013 season, being defeated at Erksine 11-10 on Saturday and winning 8-5 at Newberry on Sunday.
Saturday night saw the Lady Hawks (1-1) receive goals from eight different players, with Rachel Skinner scoring three times in four shots on goal.
Erksine would receive six goals from Samantha Burns on 13 shots, part of a 23 shot attack that saw Taylor Moody make nine saves for the game.
Erksine would outgain Shorter on ground balls, 28-11, while also laying claim to the 12-11 draw control advantage.
In game two of the weekend, Shorter was able to pick up the victory at Newberry behind three goals from Avery Armstrong and two more from Skinner.
Shorter would enter halftime up 4-1 as Katie Ott would add an unassisted first half goal.
Both squads would score four goals in the second half, with Armstrong adding three goals and an assist.
Shorter would outshoot Newberry, 32-22, but would be on the wrong side of the 22-20 tally for ground balls.
Moody got the start in goal again, making six more saves while facing 11 shots on goal.
The Lady Hawks are back in action on Tuesday from Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. with a 4 pm start time. This will be the first game for the Converse Valkyries for the season.
