First half outburst carries Lady Hawks to 14-8 win at Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. -- An eleven goal opening half propelled the Lady Hawks to the 14-8 victory at Chowan, sending the home team to a fifth consecutive loss.

Mia Wiggins got the scoring started 32 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal - the first of two goals for Wiggins on the day.

Shorter (7-3) scored the first six goals of the game, featuring the pair by Wiggins, and one each from Bianca Rojas and Avery Armstrong before back-to-back goals from Aiste Pranciliauskaite.

After the lone Chowan Hawks goal of the first half, the Shorter Lady Hawks responded with five goals – Rojas adding two more, along with Armstrong, Pranciliauskaite, and Shelby Beverly.

Chowan (1-9) scored the two opening goals after the intermission, before Kari Chambers picked up her second goal of the season and Amber Hicks scored her eighth of the season.

Bethany Fevella took a Katie Ott pass and scored the final Lady Hawks goal of the game with 13:27 remaining.

Taylor Moody started in goal and played just the opening half before giving way to Nicole Kube. Moody made a pair of saves while facing just three shots, while Kube made three saves on ten shots.

Rojas scored three times, after picking up five goals yesterday, to cap off a high scoring weekend for the junior.

Pranciliauskaite scored three times and added an assist, while Armstrong scored a pair and picked up an assist.

Shorter went 2-for-4 on free position shots, while being successful on 7 of 8 clear attempts. The Lady Hawks were also able to control 14 draw controls.

The Shorter defense forced 18 Chowan turnovers while forcing the home defense to contend with 29 shots.

The Lady Hawks are on the road next Sunday at Centre with an 11 am start.
