ROME -- Lindenwood took advantage of a fast start and a strong finish to leave with a victory from Ben Brady Field, 18-0, versus the Lady Hawks.
A trio of Lady Lions (1-0) were able to score three goals each, Shelby Polk, Melissa Smith, and Melissa Menchella to help keep the action in front of the Shorter goal for the majority of the game.
Polk picked up her first goal less than a minute into the game, and she added another as part of a seven goal first half. Smith added two goals and an assist, while Menchella scored twice and assisted twice in the opening 30 minutes.
Shorter was hurt by 32 turnovers, versus 23 for Lindenwood, with the Lady Lions winning the 44-32 advantage on ground balls.
Christine Hehmeyer needed to make only three saves on the day to earn the shut out, Shorter shot the ball only nine times.
