SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Lady Hawks lacrosse team picked up the second consecutive road victory, defeating Converse College, 10-8 in double overtime.
The Lady Hawks got off to a quick start in the first half, rattling off five consecutive goals to jump out to the 5-0 lead. All five Shorter (2-1) goals were scored by five different players. Converse would fight back with five straight to tie the game, 5-5, at halftime.
The second half would see each team score alternating goals to end regulation at a 7-7 tie.
The first overtime period would see the Lady Hawks score three times, with Rachel Skinner adding her third goal of the game and Bianca Rojas adding both of her goals – including one on the feed from Skinner.
Converse would pick up their lone goal in the second OT period with four seconds to play when Jordy Taylor scored her second goal of the game.
The Lady Hawks would receive goals from six players, while picking up four assists on the ten goals.
Converse would control the ground ball possessions with a 31-18 advantage while Shorter claimed the 15-6 advantage on draw controls.
Taylor Moody faced 17 shots on goal, making nine saves while only allowing Converse to go 1-for-6 on free position shots.
Shorter was led by Skinner with three goals and three assists, along with Avery Armstrong scoring twice and assisting once. Aiste Pranciliauskaite would attempt 12 shots, with 10 being on goal to pressure the Converse defense.
The Lady Hawks are done with the season starting road trip and will play the first game of the season from Ben Brady Field on Saturday versus Savannah College of Art and Design at 1 pm.
