CALERA, Ala. -- Sophomore Pauline Schopp placed third overall with a two-day total of 150 (+8) to lead the Shorter women's golf team to a third place team finish at the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Montevallo Invitational hosted by the Timberline Golf Club in Calera, Ala.
Schopp led the Lady Hawks to a second round surge that resulted in a top three finish after Shorter found itself in a tie for fifth after the tournament's first 18 holes. She followed up her first round 76 with a second round 74 (+3) to finish four strokes behind medalist Kimesha Anthony of Columbus State.
As a team, Shorter compiled a two-day total of 626 (316-310) and finished ahead of new Gulf South Conference rival West Georgia, which ended its tournament run with a total score of 628. The Lady Hawks, who were four strokes back of the Lady Wolves after Monday's play, finished six strokes better than West Georgia in Tuesday's second round to slip into the third spot on the final leaderboard.
Shorter had three individuals finish in the top 10 of the final standings. Joining Schopp were sophomore Isabella Baldacci and senior Maria Bengtsson, who shot identical rounds of 78-77 to post two-day totals of 155 and place in a five-way tie for seventh overall.
Lander University won the team title with a final total of 610 (297-313) while Columbus State (614) finished second. West Georgia and North Georgia (639) made up the rest of the top five team finishers.
The Lady Hawks will continue their fall preseason schedule on Oct. 1-2 when they compete in the Chick-fil-A Collegiate hosted by Berry College at Coosa Country Club.
