ROME -- After shooting an opening round 320, the Lady Hawk golfers were able to improve in round two to place third at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational. The total shot count of 628 was 10 behind champion University of the Cumberlands.

The Lady Hawks were able to place two golfers in the top five by the time things finished. Pauline Schopp finished fourth with a two-day total of 154 (79-75), while Claudia Orrantia finished in a tie for fifth one stroke behind her teammate at 155 (79-76).

Maria Bengtsson ended up in 19th place with her rounds of 81-78-159, while Isabella Baldacci (83-79-162) was 30th and Amanda Schwartz (81-84-165) ended up in 36th.

Also entered for Shorter were Rachel Butler (83-79-162) in a tie for 30th and Alyson Hicks (94-91-185), who ended in 74th.

The University of the Cumberlands ended round one with the lead and held on to their position to take home the championship. Liz Stephens (75-70-45, +3) cut five strokes from her first round to take home the individual title for UC as no golfer had a total below par.

The Lady Hawks golf team is in action next on October 13-14 at Tunica National Golf and Tennis Club for The BUC 11 hosted by Christian Brothers University.
