CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Lady Hawks and Lady Statesmen played January 10 in the Winthrop-King Centre, with Delta State claiming the 65-59 victory. Since that point the Lady Hawks have won four Gulf South Conference games by single point victories.
The Lady Hawks starters played impressively on January 10; between Shelby Farrer, Karisma Boykin and Kristin Nash were 48 of the 59 points. The Lady Statesmen bench scored 16 points on a combined 61 minutes of play while the Lady Hawks bench only contributed five points in 54 minutes.
Since the first meeting, each team has done exceptionally well within the conference; the Lady Hawks have won seven of nine while the Lady Statesmen have won five of eight. DSU team leader Seneca Walton will walk on the court Thursday night in the GSC ranked top third in blocked shots, field goal percentage (49%), top five in rebounds, and top ten in scoring, assists and free throws. The Lady Hawks limited Walton to a six-point game January 10.
Only two of the five opponents left on Shorter's remaining schedule defeated the Lady Hawks earlier this season: Delta State and University of Alabama-Huntsville.
