ROME -- The West Florida Lady Argos are coming to Rome this Thursday night, the first meeting resulted in a Lady Hawks victory in Pensacola, FL, on January 3. The Lady Hawks were up 29-28 at halftime and began the second half with a 13-2 run. The victory was finalized when Shorter got hot with five minutes left in the game to end with a 15-2 run. Ieshia Alexander was the leading scorer of this game (22), Karisma Boykin added 16 points and gathered a team-high eight rebounds. The Lady Argos Hanna Vette played a solid game with 13 points, with three 3-pointers, Jasmine Wigfall and Emily Erland each scored ten points against the Lady Hawks.
Since the first meeting, West Florida has only won two of their last eight games while the Lady Hawks have won six of their last nine. West Florida is ranked first in the Gulf South Conference in free throw percentage, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounding, and blocked shots; they're third in assists and field goal defense. Vette is among the top guards in the GSC ranking top five in points per game and rebounds. Toynetta Johnson is a scoring leader, but she is first in GSC play steals and assists.
In their most recent contest the Lady Hawks defeated the West Georgia Wolves, a team they lost to in overtime in early December. Alexander led the Lady Hawks with 21 points and four assists, while Shelby Farrer scored eight points, blocked two shots and yanked down ten rebounds in the 62-54 victory.
