ROME -- The Lady Hawks have won two in a row, the Lady Bulldogs have won three straight. One team will see the winning streak snapped Saturday at 2 pm it the Winthrop-King Centre.
The Lady Hawks went to battle against the North Alabama Lady Lions on the road taking the victory in the final 20 seconds when Shelby Farrer came through with a layup for the games go-ahead point, winning 61-60. The Lady Hawks look to move past the Lady Bulldogs as they did against the Lady Lions, by hitting 44 percent of field goal attempts and 47 percent beyond the arch. Lynette Harris and Farrer each scored in the double digits Thursday night; the two have consistently led the Lady Hawks throughout the season. Leadership must step up when the tough Lady Bulldogs come in to town.
On the court Saturday the Lady Bulldogs feature shooting talent that is making an impact and earning recognition for outstanding play midway into the regular season by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. The sophomore starting guards, Amy Philamlee and Amber Rechis collectively average 25 of the teams 70 points and prove to be the leaders for the Lady Bulldogs. Union has won eight of their last nine; their most recent victory was a top-sided win over Alabama-Huntsville Lady Chargers, 80-67. The Lady Bulldogs are strong defensively and muster up the majority of rebounds over their opponents.
