Lady Hawks defeat Albany State in OT, 53-49

ALBANY, Ga. - Shorter rallied form a halftime deficit to force the game to overtime, where Shelby Farrer scored four points to lead the Lady Hawks over the Lady Rams of Albany State, 53-49.

Albany State (1-5) took a three-point lead into halftime aided by the Lady Hawks shooting only 33 percent in the half.  Shorter (4-3) was able to keep close by maintaining the edge in rebounds. The first half saw Shorter grab 21 boards, with 11 coming on the offensive glass.

The second-half started with the Lady Hawks going on a 14-6 run, one that saw a pair of Karisma Boykin 3-pointers within 20 seconds, helping to stretch the lead to 36-31.

Albany State would rally in the late portion of the half to tie the game on an April Thomas 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.

The overtime period saw Shorter outscore the home team, 7-3.

Thomas and Kedeemya Cooper were the only two Lady Rams score in double digits, Thomas scored the game-high with 20 points and Cooper would add 10. Cooper also led the team 13 rebounds, including nine defensively.

Farrer added 13 rebounds to tie for the game-high with Cooper while recording her fourth game of the season with double-digit rebounds. She also registered a game-high five steals while adding eight points.

Kristin Nash led the Lady Hawks in scoring with 13 points and a game-high five assists – she would record an assist on two of the three baskets in overtime.

Lynette Harris scored 11 points and pulled in nine rebounds. Shorter won the rebounding battle, 47-37 thanks to the strong effort of 20 offensive rebounds that helped turn into 10 second chance points, compared to Albany State only scoring two.

Boykin, the leading scorer for the team, would score only eight points, but chipped in with four steals and six rebounds.

The Lady Hawks now enter a little break for Christmas, before returning to the court on December 29 and 30 as they play in the St. Leo Classic. Trevecca Nazarene will be the opponent on the 29th at 2 pm, with the 30th having another 2 pm tip-off against Ursuline.
