ROME--Jamal McDaniel has signed his letter of intent to join the track and field program at Shorter University beginning in the fall of 2013.
The Douglasville product joins Jasmine Ellis, a fellow Chapel Hill High School teammate, on the hill, where he’ll compete in the sprints.
When asked about McDaniel, Head Coach Scott Byrd responded, “He’s a perfect fit for the school. His parents have raised an amazing young man, and we’re excited to watch him continue his track career here.”
Jamal currently sits as one of the fastest seniors in the state in both the 100 and 200 meter dash. Recently he was crowned region 4-AAA champion in both events, as well as the 4x100 meter relay.
Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach, Rochelle Black, seemed impressed by the six foot tall sprinter who also doubles as a member of the National Guard. “He presented himself as a respectable and mature young man. I knew he was right for our program. Jamal will be someone to look out for as we progress into DII.”
