BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Shorter track and field teams return to the track this Thursday and Friday for the Blazer Invite hosted by University of Alabama at Birmingham. The meet, which includes over thirty teams, will be held at the Birmingham Crossplex, site of the 2013 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships.
The Hawks will have the full team competing, after only running a small group in December. They'll turn their focus to qualifying for the NCCAA National Championships next month.
For the women, the Lady Hawks will look to Lakeisha Spikes and Ayana Walker to lead the sprinters. Last month, Walker ran a personal best of 24.67 in the 200 meter dash, the best on the team, and the second fastest time in school history. Spikes ran a 7.70 in the 60 meter dash, just missing a personal best time.
The distance unit will be making their debut this year, with Shea Spicer, an All-American this year in Cross Country, leading the way.
The men will have a lot of talent coming to the track this weekend. Allen Huntley, a senior sprinter, will be taking to the track for his final season for Shorter, as will All-American distance duo Daniel Sorenson and Carlos Perez.
The first event begins at 8 am Friday morning, with the mile, and results can be found here.
