PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Fourth ranked West Florida scored twice in the first half en route to a 2-0 victory over Shorter University in the regular season finale.
West Florida was able to get a goal from Stephen Munoz in the 22nd minute and another by Felipe Oliveira in the 38th minute to establish a 2-0 halftime lead. There would be no scoring in the second half from either team.
The Hawks (4-13-1, 3-9 GSC) were outshot, 22-3; Irvin Espinal attempted two shots while Sixto Moraga had the other shot. The Argo goal keeper, Stuart McCrory, only needed to make two saves on the day.
The Argo defense lived up to the billing as one of the toughest in the Gulf South Conference, twice this season the West Florida (12-2-2, 10-0-2 GSC) defense has been awarded GSC Defender of the Week honors for three consecutive weeks.
Ryan Edwards got the start in goal for the Hawks, making three first half saves. Edwards concludes his two-year Hawks career with 120 saves, good enough for second place in the school record books behind Thomas Fulton (179 saves).
Austen Trevers came in at the intermission and also recorded three saves, while playing the entire second half. The freshman recorded 46 saves on the season, a total good enough to place him sixth on the career list in a season where he split time with the senior.
