ROME – Shorter (2-6-1, 1-4 GSC) gave up three goals in the first half to West Alabama (8-1, 4-0 GSC) who came into the game as the No. 7 ranked team according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, before a comeback fell short in a 3-2 loss at Ben Brady Field.
The Tigers had only given up six goals in the eight games previously this season, with only one other opponent scoring multiple goals against the team this year.
In the second half the Hawks were much more aggressive and were outplaying the Tigers when Irvin Espinal made a run down the middle of the field and was able to score the second Hawks goal in the 62nd minute to pull the team within one goal. The goal marks Espinal's fifth in nine games to lead the Hawks.
Austen Trevers was inserted into goal at the half and was able to make two saves to stop the Tiger scoring attack.
The Hawks are back in action on Sunday as West Florida comes to Ben Brady Field for a 4:30 pm game, with the Argos riding a three game winning streak that has them standing at 4-2-1 overall (3-0-1 GSC).
