HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Hawks secured their first Gulf South Conference victory in program history with a 2-1 defeat of host Alabama-Huntsville.
Irvin Espinal and Diego Gonzalez each scored a goal and accounted for six of the eight shots on goal against the Chargers. Each goal represented the third goal scored for each player for the 2012 season.
Espinal buried a penalty kick in the goal to start the scoring in the 27th minute. Gonzalez took a pass from Trevor Greenwald from just outside the box and put his shot just beyond the reach of the UAH keeper in the 36th minute for the second goal.
Ryan Edwards made the lead hold up while making four saves on the night. Edwards now has 97 career saves, which puts him in a tie for second with Jonathan Paletar on the Hawks' all time list.
The Hawks (2-4-1, 1-2 Gulf South) play next on Saturday as Union (1-2-2, 0-1-1) comes to Rome for a 2 pm start at Ben Brady Field.
