Rome, Ga.—The Hawks beat Reinhardt, 16-10, Friday night at Ben Brady Field in it's last home game of the season.
The win improves Shorter to 4-7 on the season, while Reinhardt falls to 9-3.
The Hawks went up 1-0 in the first quarter when Matt Kristiansen scored within the first minute of the game. Reinhardt answered with two of the their own to go up 2-1; which stood through the first quarter.
Shorter put up five goals in the second quarter, while the Eagles managed one. James VandenBrink connected on three, while Kristiansen added two. The Hawks led, 6-3, at the intermission.
Reinhardt scored two goals to start the third quarter to close the gap to one, but Shorter answered with three consecutive goals; two from VandenBrink and one from Zachery Dirkse to regain the advantage. The Eagles scored once more in the quarter, but Shorter extended it's lead with goals from Kyle VanKauwenberg and Kristiansen, to put the Hawks up11-6 going into the final period.
The Eagles added four goals in the last period, but wasn't able to over take the Hawks; as they added five of their own for the final 16-10 score Kyle Morris scored twice in the period, while Andrew King, Benjamin Janes, and Kristiansen each chipped in with one.
VandenBrink and Kristiansen each ended the game with five goals for Shorter, while Reinhardt had three plays with two goals—Max Thomas, Jarrad Hines, and Channing Hoyt.
The Hawks outshot the Eagles 49-29, while each team won 15 faceoffs. Shorter was 18-19 in clear attempts, and took advantage of 23 Reinhardt turnovers.
The Hawks return to action April 6 as the travel to Ohio Valley for a 1:00pm game.
