BOONE, N.C. -- Shorter University's men's lacrosse matchup with Lees-McRae College, originally scheduled at noon tomorrow on the campus of Lees-McRae, will now take place at Watauga High School in Boone, N.C.
Lees-McRae announced the site change from its campus to the local high school on Thursday evening. The game will begin as regularly scheduled at 12 pm. For directions to Watauga High School (300 Go Pioneers Drive / Boone, N.C. 28607), please click here.
Shorter is looking for its first win of the 2013 season, the first for new head coach Jason Childs.
Childs has the Hawks playing at a high level despite the team having played its first two games of the season without Matt Kristiansen, Shorter's leading scorer and point producer from a year ago, and Ken Brinson, whose size and experience will sure up what has been an all freshman defensive unit for the Hawks.
Both players are scheduled to get their first action of the season tomorrow afternoon.
Shorter dropped its season opener to Coker College, 15-9, on Feb. 8 before falling on the road to Belmont Abbey, 11-6, last Saturday. The Hawks now turn their attention to Lees-McRae (0-4), which is winless on the year and coming off a 10-2 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday.
Senior attackman Patrick Foy leads the Hawks offensively with five goals and three assists, both team highs. Foy has also been a stalwart on the defensive end of the field, pacing the Hawks with three caused turnovers.
James VandenBrink has tallied five points (four goals, one assist) through two games while Benjamin Janes has chipped in with a goal and two helpers. Michael Myerson leads Shorter with eight ground balls and in goal, freshman J.R. Willers has been solid, with 29 saves and a save percentage of .527.
