ROME -- The Hawks received dominating efforts from a pair of seniors, and All-Americans, to win the final home game of the season against North Alabama, 77-64.
Walter Hill scored a game-high 25 points, while Anthony Banks got a double-double – 22 points and 12 rebounds – in a game that saw the Hawks defeat the visiting Gulf South Conference foe and end a four game losing streak.
Shorter (15-9, 9-7 GSC) took the halftime lead, 37-31, thanks to shooting 39 percent from the field. Hill scored 13 in the first half, while Banks scored 12, which was aided by a 4-for-4 performance from the free throw line.
Once the second half started, the Hawks took advantage of a 12-2 run to lead by 16, 49-33, after a Hill 3-pointer. North Alabama (17-6, 10-5 GSC) got no closer than 12 points as Shorter picked up the tenth home victory of the season.
Dedric Ware scored 15 to be the third Hawk to score double digits in points, while adding eight rebounds and eight assists.
Hill pulled in eight rebounds while leading the Hawks in blocks (three) and steals (three).
North Alabama got a double double from Bruce Adams – 14 points and 11 rebounds – with Rashaun Claiborne (13) and DeAndre Hersey (12) topping the scoring efforts for the Lions.
The Hawks shot 57 percent in the second half while the defense locked down and only gave up eight field goals to the Lions after the intermission.
Shorter was able to convert 18 UNA turnovers into 19 points, while capitalizing on the 28-20 advantage on points in the paint.
"These seniors have done so much for Shorter," said head coach Chad Warner. "This group has battled adversity all year. I am looking forward to our regular season finish and tournament play."
The Hawks finish the regular season with a pair of GSC road games, Union on February 23 and Alabama-Huntsville on March 2.
