Hawks win at home versus Clark Atlanta, 99-68

ROME - Anthony Banks recorded the double-double as Shorter defeated Clark Atlanta for the second time in a month, 99-68. The two teams played on December 8, with the Hawks picking up the road win 83-67.

Banks led all scorers with 21 points, going 10-for-14 from the field, and added 10 rebounds.

When Jerrel Joye for Clark Atlanta hit a jump shot with 13:05 remaining on the clock in the first half, and CAU (1-7) ahead 18-16, this would be the final time the Hawks would trail.

A series of ties would ensue, with the final tie coming at 25-25 with 9:41 to play in the half. The Hawks (7-3) would close the half on a 22-11 run to enter half-time 47-36. The run was fueled by eight points from Dedric Ware, on his way to scoring 13 on the night.

Kenny Leverette and Banks would tally 10 points and six rebounds each in the opening half. Shorter had the advantage on points in the paint, 28-16, while also scoring 12 points on eight Panther turnovers.

The second half was much of the same as the Hawks never trailed, while outscoring the visitors by 20 points to lead to the victory. The second half saw Shorter dominate in the paint, 28-12; while also scoring 21 points off of turnovers and claiming the 20-11 advantage on points from the bench.

Brandon Pullman recorded the second double-double for the Hawks on the night, with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while also handing out four assists.

Walter Hill scored 13 points in his first home game of the season. He handed out three assists and recorded two blocks.

Ware would score 13 points on the night, while also picking up nine assists.  He is now averaging 6.1 assists per game for the season.

Brandon Wright scored eight points from the bench, going 2-for-4 on 3-pointers, while also pulling in seven rebounds.

Austin Pearson was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, on his way to scoring nine points to lead the Hawks reserves.

Shorter plays again on January 3 at West Florida, with tip-off set for 8 pm. The Hawks return to the court of the Winthrop-King Centre on January 10 as Gulf South Conference opponent Delta State visits for the 8 pm tip-off. The Hawks are 5-0 at home this season, a year after going 15-0 at home. The last time the Hawks lost at home was January 15, 2011 – a span of almost two years.
