YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- With the Hawks down by two at the break, senior Kenny Leverette stepped up in the second half to rally the Hawks to the 98-87 win at Young Harris.
Leverette would score 19 of his 22 points in the second half that saw Shorter overcome the 35-33 score to outscore Young Harris by 13 to out distance the home team. The point total set a new season high.
C.J. Davis would also put his best effort forth in the second half, scoring 17 of his game high 24 points. He would add five boards, three assists, and two steals on the night. Davis also hit on three 3-point shots, while being a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.
Both Anthony Banks and Brandon Pullman would add 18 points for the night, with Banks adding 16 in the second half and Pullman scoring 11 in the same frame. Pullman would add nine boards for a game high, all on the defensive glass, and convert all six free throw attempts. Banks would pull down seven rebounds on the game.
Dedric Ware registered 10 assists, with eight in the second half. Ware chipped in with two rebounds, and scoring six points that included going 4-6 on free throws.
Shorter (2-1) was able to take advantage in the second half by shooting 66.7% from the field during their run, including the team being a perfect 17-17 from the free throw line. The Hawks also sank four of nine from behind the arc during their rally.
Devance Harris led both benches with six points and five boards.
Young Harris (0-1) was able to jump out to the lead by shooting 41.2% in the first half, compared to Shorter at 36.7%. Young Harris was also assisted by four 3-pointers and leading the turnover battle 12-9.
The Hawks return home to the Winthrop-King Centre to take on Reinhardt on Monday at 7 pm. The Hawks took the only meeting between the two schools last season, 63-61.
