Baseball falls to Emmanuel, 8-5

Lakeland, Fla.—After losing to Southeastern yesterday, Shorter was in a must win situation if they wanted to continue in the tournament. However, Emmanuel had other plans, edging the Hawks 8-5 Thursday afternoon.

With the loss Shorter ends the 2013 season with an overall record of 17-35.

Emmanuel scored first, plating three runs in the second inning to take the lead. The Hawks answered with three of their own in the third to tie the game, and took the lead, 5-3, with a run in each the fourth and fifth innings.

The lions once again tied the game, 5-5, with two runs in the sixth, and earned the win with three in the seventh.

Cal Hardie, Dustin Evans, Walker Borneman, Charlie Gillis, and Dustin Hays each recorded two hits for Shorter. Evans led the team with two RBI in the game.

Blaine Seagraves earned the win for Emmanuel; pitching 0.1 innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout. Micah Thompson was tagged with the loss for the Hawks; allowing one run on three hits, over 0.2 innings of work.
