Baseball splits doubleheader with No. 17 Alabama-Huntsville

Rome—Baseball split the doubleheader with No. 17 Alabama-Huntsville Saturday from the Ledbetter Complex; winning the first, 1-0 and dropping the second, 2-0.

The Hawks move to 15-32 on the season, and 10-15 in the Gulf South. The Chargers go to 32-13-1 overall, and 16-6-1 in conference play.

Shorter scored the only run of Game 1 in the fourth inning. Darrius Jennings reached base on a single to right, and then came around to score on an RBI triple from Charlie Gillis.

Stuart Charleston, en route to the win, pitched the complete game for the Hawks; scattering six hits and five walks, while striking out five. Dana Wright was tagged with the loss for Alabama-Huntsville; giving up eight hits and two walks, with seven strikeouts.

In Game 2, the Chargers went ahead 1-0 in the first on a homerun from Chandler Brock, and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on a single from Cody Burton.

Alex Aultman picked up the win for Alabama-Huntsville; allowing five hits, with five strikeouts over seven innings of work. Cameron Rich recorded the loss for Shorter; allowing one earned run on six hits, while striking out six and walking one.

Michael Miranda finished with four hits on the day for the Hawks, while four others recorded two hits for Shorter.

Baseball will be back in action for Wednesday, April 30, as they travel to Tusculum for a 4pm game.
