Aiken, S.C.—USC Aiken used a three run fifth inning to top the Baseball Hawks, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon.
The loss drops Shorter to 13-27 on the season; while the Pacers improve to 35-8 overall.
In the fifth, the Hawks added two runs to make it a 3-1 game as Borneman added to his RBI total with a single that brought in Hardie and Darrius Jennings. In the bottom of the inning, the Pacers got to within one on an RBI single from Bryce Baur, and took the lead on a two-run homerun by Bill Gerstenslager.
Borneman ended the day with three RBI and two hits. Hardie finished 2-5 at the plate and scored two of Shorter's runs.
Russell Crosby was tagged with the loss for the Hawks; pitching five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Tyler Stephan recorded the win for USC Aiken; allowing two runs on two hits over two innings of work.
Shorter will return to Gulf South action this weekend, April 20 & 21, as they travel to West Florida for a three game series. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 3pm; Sunday's game is scheduled for 2pm.
