ROME, Ga.—Baseball earned the split with West Alabama Saturday afternoon. Winning the opener 2-1, while dropping the finale 4-2.
Shorter goes to 13-25 overall, and 8-10 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama moves to 19-21 on the season, and 12-7 in conference play.
David Summerall pitched a complete game gem in Game 1, allowing one run on four hits, with nine strikeouts. The Tigers were kept hitless until Jacobby Robinson delivered a single with one out in the sixth inning.
West Alabama's only run came in the seventh inning on an RBI single from Brett Langham.
In Game 2, the Tigers got on the board in the third on an RBI double from Matthew Magee, and added to their lead in the fourth when three runs scored.
Darrius Jennings delivered the only runs for the Hawks, on a 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.
Cameron Rich earned the loss for Shorter; pitching four innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, with five strikeouts. Barry Meeks picked up the win for West Alabama; going six innings, recording two runs on ten hits, with five strikeouts.
Evans and Jennings both finished the day with two hits and two RBI, while Charlie Gillis recorded three hits over the two games.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 14, as the complete they series with West Alabama; game time is set for 1pm.
