Cleveland, Miss.—Baseball dropped the series finale with No. 1 Delta State, 4-1, Sunday afternoon on the road.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 12-23 on the season and 7-9 in the Gulf South. The Statesmen improve to 27-4-1 overall and 11-2-1 in conference play.
Shorter got on the board first, scoring one run in the first inning on an RBI double from Walker Borneman. Delta State tied the game in the fourth, when Carlos Leal drove in a run on a fly out to center. The Statesmen added to the lead with two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth, for the 4-1 final score.
Michael Manley earned the win for Delta State; pitching the complete game, allowing one run on four hits, with nine strikeouts. Stuart Charleston was tapped with the loss for the Hawks; giving up three runs on five hits, with one strikeout and one walk, over 7.0 innings of work.
Shorter will return to action April 10, as they host Columbus State at the Ledbetter Baseball Complex; game time is set for 2pm.
