ROME, Ga.—Baseball won both games of the doubleheader with Christian Brothers Friday afternoon; winning the opener 8-5, and the finale 4-0.
In Game 1, the Bucs went up 1-0 in the first on a fly out from Braden Keathley. But, Shorter put three on the board in the second inning to take the lead. Walker Borneman stole home followed by a 2 RBI single from Chad Ikerd. Jacob Forrest doubled in a run in the fourth to make it a 4-1 game.
Christian Brothers answered with four runs in the sixth to take the lead 5-4. However, in the bottom of the inning the Hawks scored four times to take the lead for good. Ikerd's RBI ground out started the scoring for Shorter. Cal Hardie singled in a run, and came around to score on Charlie Gillis' double. Michael Miranda added an RBI single for the 8-5 final.
David Summerall earned the win for the Hawks; allowing five runs on seven hits over six innings of work.
The only runs Shorter needed in Game 2 came in the second inning; where they scored four times. Darrius Jennings and Jesse Gavigan both singled to lead things off; while Forrest was batting they successfully completed the double steal which led to the first run of the game. Forrest singled, and moved Gavigan to third. Ikerd followed with a RBI double and Gillis chipped in with a 2 RBI double to make it a 4-0 game.
Shorter starter, Cameron Rich, held Christian Brothers to two hits in the game; Mac Cooley singled in the second and Charles Kelly singled in the sixth. Through six innings of work he also recorded six strike outs. Ben Stell struck out two in one inning of relief.
Hardie recorded four hits on the day; while Gavigan and Forrest each had three. Ikerd drove in five runs.
Shorter will wrap up its series with Christian Brothers tomorrow, March 30; with the game slated to begin at 1pm.
