TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Shorter University's cross country teams turned in solid results at this weekend's Crimson Classic hosted by the University of Alabama. The race, which serves as a final tune up before the Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships, featured several teams from division 1 schools, including host school Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee.
Shea Spicher once again led the ladies. Her 31st place individual finish paced the team to a 13th place team finish, beating out Conference foe North Alabama. First year Coach Martin Hernandez was happy with the results. "It's a pretty tough course, but I think the girls did a good job, especially considering I don't think there were many non D1 schools there."
The men had two very bright spots on the day, as Daniel Sorenson finished 8th and Carlos Perez finished 19th. "Today's meet was not about times it was really about competing and racing some good DI schools. Daniel ran well came out conservative and moved all the way to a top 8th finish. Carlos was not too far behind." Hernandez went on about the men. "The two were very excited about the race and beat a lot of good guys they have never beaten before."
Next for the Hawks will be their first ever trip to the Gulf South Conference Championships. The races begin October 20th at 10am.
