Rome's Historic Barron Stadium is home to the Shorter University football and track and field teams. Barron Stadium served as host of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 NAIA Football National Championship and will do so once again in 2011. In fact, Rome-Floyd County, Shorter and Barron Stadium are contracted to host the NAIA Football National Championship through 2015.
Barron Stadium underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in the Summer of 2010, a project that included the installation of a state-of-the-art synthetic turf surface, renovations to the locker room and shower facilities, increased seating capacity and the installation of a state-of-the-art, Beynon Sports Surfaces, eight-lane track that will allow Shorter to host track meets for the first time in the history of its program in 2012.
Apart from housing seating for more than 6,500 spectators, the stadium also includes a newly-designed press box, locker room facilities for two teams, concession areas on both the home and visitor sides, side coaching boxes and training rooms. Adjacent to the complex, visitors will find Memorial Gym, past home to the Hawk and Lady Hawk basketball teams. Memorial Gym and the surrounding parking locations are also scheduled for future renovation, making Barron Stadium one of the top football and track facilities in the entire NAIA.
